'Head and Neck Imaging in Oral Medicine'

Aims

  • To learn the imaging modalities and techniques available for the diagnosis and biopsies of salivary gland neoplasms.
  • To learn the imaging of dental abnormalities, trigeminal neuropathy and other causes of facial pain.
  • To learn the relative advantages and disadvantages of imaging modalities in the evaluation of oral cavity malignancy. Highlighting the diagnostic features, their relevance to staging and in the post-treatment setting.
  • To learn the common radiolucent lesions of the jaws and their pertinent differentiating radiological features.
  • To learn to recognise both normal anatomical features and pathological processes that may present as radiopacities on dental imaging
  • To learn of the imaging modalities used in assessment of obstructive and immune mediated salivary gland disease

Objectives

  • To understand the most common salivary neoplasms and the common imaging findings.
  • To understand the imaging of dental abnormalities, trigeminal neuropathy and other causes of facial pain.
  • To understand the relative advantages and disadvantages of imaging modalities in the evaluation of oral cavity malignancy. To understand the diagnostic features, their relevance to staging and using them in a post-treatment setting.
  • To understand how the pathophysiology of different lesions affects their radiological presentation.
  • To understand the appropriateness of different imaging modalities when investigating the temporomandibular joint
  • To understand and recognise common radiographic features of obstructive and immune mediated salivary gland disease
